LIV Golf Expands Global Reach with Title-Sponsored Tournament in Hong Kong
LIV Golf has made a significant move in its expansion strategy by announcing the first-ever title-sponsored tournament in its history. This development marks a pivotal moment for the Saudi-backed league as it continues to grow its presence on the global sports stage.
The event, set to take place from March 6-8, 2026, will be held at the Fanling Course of the Hong Kong Golf Club, the oldest golf club in China. The tournament has been renamed the HSBC LIV Golf Hong Kong as part of a multi-year partnership between LIV Golf and HSBC. This collaboration is expected to elevate the event to new heights, emphasizing innovation, accessibility, and global impact.
Strategic Partnership and Event Details
The partnership with HSBC is not just a financial arrangement but a shared commitment to advancing the sport and making a meaningful impact. LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil expressed his excitement about the collaboration, highlighting the enthusiasm that Hong Kong has shown since the league’s first visit.
“Partnering with HSBC elevates this marquee event to new levels and highlights our shared values of innovation, accessibility, and global impact,” O’Neil stated. The event will feature 54 of LIV Golf’s top players competing in both individual and team competitions over three days of intense action.
This tournament will be one of 14 events scheduled for the 2026 season, spanning across 10 countries and five continents. Other confirmed host sites include Riyadh, Adelaide, Singapore, South Africa, Mexico City, Virginia, Andalusia, Louisiana, the UK, and Indianapolis.
Historical Success in Hong Kong
Hong Kong has already seen some memorable performances in previous editions of the tournament. Players from the Fireballs GC team have claimed victory in the individual events, with Abraham Ancer winning in 2024 and Sergio Garcia emerging as the champion this year.
Andy Kwok, captain of the Hong Kong Golf Club, expressed his delight at being part of this prestigious event. “As the oldest golf club in China, we are delighted to be playing a role in bringing LIV Golf and the excitement that means to the region,” he said. He also emphasized the importance of LIV Golf’s community-focused initiatives, which align with the club’s values.
Team Performance and Future Prospects
Legion XIII were the champions of the 2025 LIV Golf season, with a team consisting of Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton, Tom McKibbin, and Caleb Surratt. They secured their victory in a playoff against Crushers GC in August, showcasing their dominance on the course.
As the league prepares for the 2026 season, the inclusion of the HSBC LIV Golf Hong Kong tournament underscores its commitment to expanding its global footprint. The event is expected to attract a wide audience, further solidifying LIV Golf’s position as a leading force in professional golf.
With the support of HSBC and the continued success of its teams, LIV Golf is well-positioned to continue its growth and make an even greater impact on the international sports scene.
