Marc believes the Marquez name, while seemingly advantageous, has placed a “burden” on his younger brother, hindering the recognition he deserves for his hard work and dedication.
Alex Marquez, currently enjoying his best season in MotoGP, secured his second career win at the Catalan Grand Prix. The 29-year-old Spaniard entered MotoGP in 2020 after claiming the Moto2 title the previous year. He initially partnered with his brother at Honda, but faced challenges in his debut season, managing only two podium finishes while Marc was sidelined with an arm injury. Subsequently, Alex was moved to LCR before joining Ducati’s Gresini satellite team in 2023.
His move to Gresini marked a turning point, with two podium finishes in 2023. The following year brought another significant change as he reunited with Marc, who ended his decade-long tenure with Honda. While Marc impressed with three race wins and a third-place finish in the 2024 standings, Alex, despite achieving his best MotoGP result with eighth, was often overshadowed by his brother’s performance, a dynamic that has undoubtedly impacted his career narrative.
The 2025 season has witnessed Alex Marquez demonstrate his full potential on the dominant GP24 Desmosedici. Starting the season with consistent second-place finishes behind Marc, Alex secured his first MotoGP victory at Jerez, briefly leading the championship. Although recent crashes and a hand injury at Assen have hampered his progress, his victory at the Catalan Grand Prix ended Marc’s 15-race win streak.
