Oscar Piastri Secures Third Consecutive Win at Miami Grand Prix, Demonstrates Dominance
Oscar Piastri continued his impressive start to the 2025 Formula One season by securing a commanding victory at the Miami Grand Prix. This win marked his fourth of the year and extended his three-race winning streak, solidifying his position at the top of the driver’s championship standings.
Piastri’s performance was nothing short of spectacular. Despite Max Verstappen starting on pole, Piastri overtook the Dutch driver during the 14th lap and never looked back. The McLaren team showcased its strength with a one-two finish as Lando Norris also claimed a strong second place. Norris overtook Verstappen four laps later, helping to create a significant gap between the two McLaren drivers and the rest of the field. George Russell of Mercedes finished third, nearly 38 seconds behind Norris.
This victory further cements Piastri’s status as one of the most consistent performers in the sport. He now leads his teammate Norris by 16 points in the championship, making him the first McLaren driver to achieve three consecutive Grand Prix wins since Mika Häkkinen in 1997-98.
Despite the success, Piastri acknowledged that there were areas for improvement. He admitted that his qualifying performance was not up to par and expressed frustration with his results from the previous day. However, he emphasized that the race itself was solid, attributing part of his success to a quick car and some good fortune.
“I did a lot of things right today, but there was definitely some good fortune there as well,” Piastri said. “I don’t want to rely on that every single Sunday. Clearly, this is the exception to the pace we’ve had this year.”
A Unique Celebration and a New Dance Trend

One of the highlights of the race was Piastri’s post-race celebration. The Australian driver performed the Griddy dance after exiting his car, fulfilling a bet he made with Minnesota Vikings star Justin Jefferson. The dance, popularized by Jefferson, became a viral sensation following the event.
Piastri admitted that his performance might need some refinement, as he hadn’t practiced it after qualifying. “That was my first attempt at a Griddy live on world TV. I stayed true to the bet, but that’s the one and only time you’ll be seeing me do that,” he said.
Jefferson praised Piastri’s effort on Instagram, writing, “You did just fine. We gone work on the dance moves another time, just keep winning brother!!”
A Star-Studded Event in Miami

The Miami Grand Prix was not just about racing; it was a spectacle that brought together celebrities from various fields. Attendees included actor Timothée Chalamet, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, and Blackpink member Lisa. The event featured a unique pre-race parade where each driver participated in a fully drivable LEGO model of their F1 cars.
The LEGO models, constructed using nearly 400,000 bricks, were designed to resemble the drivers’ actual cars, complete with their numbers and liveries. These models were driven around the course ahead of the race, adding an extra layer of excitement and creativity to the event.
Lewis Hamilton Faces Frustrations at Ferrari
While Piastri celebrated his victory, Lewis Hamilton faced a different challenge. The seven-time world champion struggled throughout the race, finishing in eighth place. His debut season with Ferrari has been rocky, with Hamilton currently sitting seventh in the driver’s championship standings, 90 points behind Piastri.
Hamilton started the race in 12th position but managed to fight his way up, finishing just three seconds behind his teammate Charles Leclerc. However, the race was marred by frustrations, particularly during a mid-race pit stop when Ferrari instructed Leclerc to yield his position to Hamilton. The delay in the instruction left Hamilton visibly frustrated, and he criticized the team’s communication over the radio.
“I lost a lot of time behind Charles, and in that moment, for sure, I was like: ‘Come on, let’s make a concise decision really quick, let’s not waste time,’” Hamilton said. “I’m sure people didn’t like certain comments, but you’ve got to understand it was frustrating.”
Despite the challenges, Hamilton remained focused on the competition. “I still have that fire in my belly. I could feel a little bit of it really coming out there, and I’m not going to apologize for being a fighter,” he added.
Looking Ahead
As the 2025 Formula One season progresses, Piastri’s dominance continues to set the tone. His ability to maintain consistency and adapt to different conditions has made him a formidable competitor. Meanwhile, Hamilton’s struggles with Ferrari highlight the challenges of adapting to a new team and environment.
With the next race on the horizon, fans can expect more thrilling moments as the competition intensifies. Whether it’s Piastri’s relentless pursuit of victory or Hamilton’s determination to regain his form, the 2025 season promises to be an exciting chapter in Formula One history.
