TOMS RIVER, N.J. – Jacob Bauer, 29, of Toms River, New Jersey, pleaded guilty on Thursday to engaging in illicit sexual conduct in a foreign place, specifically admitting to traveling to Norway and engaging in sexual acts with a 14-year-old girl, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Alina Habba.
Bauer admitted that in December 2023, he flew from the United States to a hotel in Norway for the express purpose of meeting and engaging in sexual activity with the teenage girl. The case highlights the serious implications of individuals crossing international borders to commit crimes against minors.
Following his return to the U.S., Bauer further incriminated himself by discussing the sexual encounter online, according to prosecutors. These online communications included acknowledgements by Bauer of the victim’s age and her status as a minor, providing additional evidence for the prosecution’s case.
Information about Bauer’s crime was subsequently disseminated online, leading to him being “doxxed” by members of an online community who had learned about his actions. This incident underscores the potential for online communities to expose and hold individuals accountable for their alleged crimes, albeit outside of formal legal channels.
Bauer now faces a potential sentence of up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. His sentencing is scheduled for January 21, 2026. The case serves as a stark reminder of the legal consequences for individuals who engage in sexual exploitation of minors, regardless of where the offense takes place.
