Alan Ritchson Hints at Potential Role in James Gunn’s DCU

Actor Alan Ritchson, known for his role in “Reacher,” has suggested he may be joining the DC Universe (DCU) under the direction of James Gunn. While Ritchson previously expressed interest in portraying Batman, he now indicates he may be exploring a different role within the franchise.

In an interview with Liam Saul of LiamLovesMovies, Ritchson stated, “I would definitely want to explore some new horizons, and I think I have a feeling we may. We’ll see.” This statement fuels speculation about the character he might play in the revamped DCU.

Ritchson had publicly campaigned for the role of Batman, expressing his enthusiasm for the character. However, Gunn, when questioned about casting Ritchson as Batman in the upcoming film “The Brave and the Bold,” stated that he had not yet considered casting but acknowledged being a fan of Ritchson. This response tempered expectations of Ritchson donning the cape and cowl.

In August 2025, Ritchson appeared to concede that Batman was not in his future. “Words have been exchanged about Batman. But I strongly don’t think that Batman is in my future,” Ritchson told Variety. He did hint at a potential future with DC, stating, “I do think there is something in my future with DC. And I would like that to remain true.”

Fans have speculated about potential roles for Ritchson, with suggestions ranging from Wildcat to Orion, the son of Darkseid, and even Bane. Ritchson is no stranger to the DC Universe, having previously played Aquaman in the series “Smallville.” He has expressed reluctance to reprise the role of Aquaman out of respect for Jason Momoa, who currently portrays the character. However, with Momoa reportedly transitioning to the role of Lobo, the possibility of Ritchson playing another DC character remains open.
